AFTER two long years, history is ready to repeat itself!
The East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention, in partnered with the historic African American Museum of Philadelphia (AAMP), presents the first-ever comic book and education festival; The SUPER HERU Mini-Con!
WHY COMICS & HISTORY? Having been printed as early as 1939, Comic books themselves are a part of history itself. Whether it be Western-themed , Fantasy, Romance, War, or Sci-fiction based comics, each publication acts as a moment in time capturing the popular aesthetics, cultural or political beliefs, and zeitgeist of when they were created. Comic books are snapshots of the thoughts, dreams, influences and concerns of writers and artists of that day and time.
Comics can teach history because comics ARE history!
THE SUPER HERU Mini-Con (powered by ECBACC, Inc.): Where History and Comic Books Meet! Many fans of comic books, sci-fi, films, and fantasy are unaware of the critical history that African-Americans have in the comic book industry. Even fewer are aware of the connection that Philadelphia has to the history of comic books. With a focus on African-American culture, storytelling, history, and education, THE SUPER HERU Mini-Con allows attendees of all ages to have fun, celebrate, and learn while they create! All are welcome to this family-friendly celebration!
